Welsh Construction has earned a Best in Real Estate award from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal for the Northwest Regional Family Services Center in Brooklyn Center.
Honored in the “Nonprofit and Community Impact Development or Redevelopment” category, the 63,000-square-foot facility is the future home of the Community Emergency Assistance Program (CEAP), Hennepin County, and Osseo Area Schools. The project is an expansion of the School District’s existing Adult Education Center facility, built in 2005, along with the construction of a three level parking ramp.
Scheduled for a September 2012 opening, the center will replace CEAP’s main facility in Brooklyn Park and one of their smaller facilities in Maple Grove. For Hennepin County Human Services and the Public Health Department, the facility will serve as their first regional hub. Common area lobbies and corridors were designed to blend the flow of activities from the existing building with the addition.
Before construction could begin, the property needed to be re-zoned and re-platted. A public road and right-of-way had to be realigned, and two residential lots were acquired. Electric, gas, phone, fiber, and cable utilities also had to be relocated. Careful coordination of construction activities has enabled the building to remain open for the Osseo school district’s adult education programs.
Judged by an 11-member panel of real-estate experts, the annual Best in Real Estate awards recognize top developments, transactions, and property management. Projects are judged on a number of factors including size, complexity, physical attributes, and impact to the Twin Cities community.
